92_HR0702 LRB9216231RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to 4 the family and friends of Donald Lee Jett, Sr., who passed 5 away on February 17, 2002; and 6 WHEREAS, Donald Lee Jett, Sr., affectionately known as 7 "Donnie", was the fifth of seven children born to the late 8 Will and Elizabeth Jett on December 12, 1944 in Chicago; he 9 was raised in the Princeton Park community; and 10 WHEREAS, Mr. Jett attended Gillespie elementary school 11 and Harlan High School in Chicago; and 12 WHEREAS, Mr. Jett was employed by U.S. Steel; he later 13 worked for the City of Chicago's Park District and the 14 Streets and Sanitation Department, where he was a dedicated 15 employee for 30 years; and 16 WHEREAS, Mr. Jett met Delores Webster in August 1977, and 17 they were united in holy matrimony on October 29, 1977 at 18 Acme Missionary Baptist Church; to this union, two children 19 were born, Donald L. Jett, Jr. and Danielle E. Jett; and 20 WHEREAS, Mr. Jett was a member of the Acme Missionary 21 Baptist Church, where he was baptized by the late Rev. S.L. 22 Sutton, Sr. in 1979; and 23 WHEREAS, Mr. Jett was an extremely enthusiastic and 24 energetic civic participant and professional; he contributed 25 to the registering, educating, and turnout of thousands of 26 voters; his efforts allowed for his community to realize the 27 true meaning of self-determination; and 28 WHEREAS, Mr. Jett was a friend to everyone he met, and he 29 was best known for his style of dress, his singing, his 30 steppin', and his pool shooting; and -2- LRB9216231RHrh 1 WHEREAS, The passing of Donald Lee Jett, Sr. will be 2 deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his 3 loving and devoted wife of 24 years, Delores Jett; his 4 children, LaTrice D. Johnson, Doniecia L. Lattimore, Donald 5 L. Jett, Jr., and Danielle E. Jett-Smith; his son-in-law, 6 Korey L. Smith; his grandchildren, Lawrice Flowers, Narion 7 Lattimore, Ronyai Washington, Devon Smith, Donald L. Jett, 8 III, and Aaron Thompson; his goddaughter, Bobbie Anderson; 9 his sisters, Marjorie Pitts and Edith Walker; his twin 10 brother, Robert "Bobby" Jett; his sisters-in-law, Lynette 11 Johnson, Deloris Montgomery, Lausey Webster, Sharon Webster, 12 and Sheila Billingsly; his brothers-in-law, George Cox, Sr., 13 Bruce Walker, Sr., Howard E. Montgomery, Zelworth Webster, 14 Sr., Leo D. Webster, Sr., and Eddie V. Billingsly, Jr.; his 15 mother-in-law, Lillie M. Johnson; and a host of nieces, 16 nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends; 17 therefore, be it 18 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 19 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 20 we mourn, along with all who knew him, the death of Donald 21 Lee Jett, Sr. of Chicago, Illinois; and be it further 22 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 23 presented to the family of Donald Lee Jett, Sr. with our 24 sincere condolences.
