92_HR0699 LRB9216199BHbh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize organizations in the 4 State of Illinois that have made valuable contributions to 5 society; and 6 WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of this House that 7 Hadassah will celebrate its 90th anniversary on March 3, 8 2002; and 9 WHEREAS, Henrietta Szold founded Hadassah, the Women's 10 Zionist Organization of America, in 1912; it is the largest 11 women's and largest Jewish membership organization in the 12 United States; and 13 WHEREAS, Hadassah has over 14,000 members in the State of 14 Illinois and chapters in every congressional district and 15 Puerto Rico; and 16 WHEREAS, Hadassah's greatest achievement to date is its 17 network of world-renowned medical and educational 18 institutions in Israel; the Hadassah Medical Organization 19 provides the highest quality health care to countless 20 individuals from throughout the Middle East, regardless of 21 race, religion, or nationality; this project is a resource 22 for training health care professionals around the world; and 23 WHEREAS, The Hadassah Medical Organization is the leading 24 medical institution in the Middle East to receive U.S. 25 government funding via the U.S. Agency for the International 26 Development's American Schools and Hospitals Abroad grant 27 program; and 28 WHEREAS, In accordance with it's humanitarian mission, 29 Hadassah has long supported a peaceful and secure Middle 30 East; and -2- LRB9216199BHbh 1 WHEREAS, In addition to their efforts in Israel, Hadassah 2 members work on issues of concern to women and the American 3 Jewish community; their commitment to education is 4 demonstrated by the accomplishments of many departments 5 within the organization, such as the Jewish Education 6 Department which is the leading scholarly center for Jewish 7 life in America; and 8 WHEREAS, Hadassah's Government Relations Unit, comprised 9 of the American Affairs/Domestic Policy and Israel, Zionist 10 and International Affairs Departments, along with their 11 Washington Action Office, educates Hadassah members and the 12 general public on important public policy matters, and 13 encourages widespread civic participation; therefore, be it 14 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 15 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 16 we congratulate Hadassah on its 90th anniversary and applaud 17 the generosity and dedication of its members; and be it 18 further 19 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 20 presented to the Illinois chapter of Hadassah as an 21 expression of our esteem.
