1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone
4 accomplishments in the lives of the citizens of the State of
5 Illinois; and
6 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that McKendree
7 College men's basketball coach Harry Statham recently
8 achieved his 800th win; and
9 WHEREAS, The Bearcats' longtime coach became just the
10 fifth head coach in basketball history to win 800 games at a
11 four-year institution; Coach Statham, who is in his 36th
12 season at McKendree, boosted his overall record to 800 wins
13 and 316 losses; and
14 WHEREAS, Coach Statham joins retired coaching legends
15 Dean Smith, Adolph Rupp, and Clarence "Big House" Gaines,
16 along with current Mount St. Mary's (Maryland) College head
17 coach Jim Phelan as the only coaches to reach the 800-win
18 mark; all five coaches on the list coached at one school
19 their entire careers; and
20 WHEREAS, McKendree College held a post-game celebration
21 following the win, which included game ball presentations by
22 both the current Bearcat team and McKendree president Dr.
23 James M. Dennis; fans in attendance received a commemorative
24 miniature basketball with Coach Statham's win total on it;
25 therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we congratulate McKendree College men's basketball coach
29 Harry Statham on becoming the fifth head coach in basketball
30 history to win 800 games at a four-year institution; and be
31 it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to Coach Harry Statham as an expression of our
3 esteem.
