92_HR0616 LRB9211357DJgc 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Many senior citizens and disabled residents of 3 Illinois need financial assistance in securing prescription 4 drugs that will enable them to maintain or improve their 5 health and avoid institutionalization; and 6 WHEREAS, The United States Congress has failed to enact 7 any legislation providing for prescription drug coverage for 8 Medicare beneficiaries, even though there is a dire need for 9 such legislation; and 10 WHEREAS, The General Assembly has taken steps to make a 11 program of pharmacy assistance available to low-income senior 12 citizens; and 13 WHEREAS, Public Act 92-10 authorizes the Department of 14 Public Aid to seek a waiver of otherwise applicable 15 requirements of Title XIX of the Social Security Act in order 16 to claim federal financial participation for a pharmacy 17 assistance program for persons aged 65 or over with income 18 levels at or less than 250% of the federal poverty level; and 19 WHEREAS, On July 31, 2001 the Department of Public Aid 20 submitted to the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid 21 Services a Section 1115 Medicaid Research and Demonstration 22 Waiver Application, providing for a pharmaceutical benefit 23 for Illinois' low-income seniors and providing enhanced 24 access to primary care; therefore, be it 25 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 26 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 27 we urge the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid 28 Services to approve the Section 1115 Medicaid Research and 29 Demonstration Waiver Application submitted by the Department 30 of Public Aid; and be it further 31 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this Resolution be sent -2- LRB9211357DJgc 1 to the Director, Center for Medicaid and State Operations, 2 Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
