92_HR0566 LRB9211142RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to 4 the family and friends of Harold Russell "Russ" Hilgert, who 5 passed away on November 24, 2001; and 6 WHEREAS, Harold Russell Hilgert was born on November 17, 7 1925 in Artesia Township, Iroquois County to Herman U. and 8 Anna Sachtjen Hilgert; he married the former Bennie L. 9 Flippin on January 18, 1947 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in 10 Momence; and 11 WHEREAS, Mr. Hilgert retired as a project manager for the 12 State of Illinois Capital Development Board; and 13 WHEREAS, Mr. Hilgert served as a village trustee of Grant 14 Park for 11 years and as mayor of Grant Park for 24 years 15 from 1977 to 2001; and 16 WHEREAS, Mr. Hilgert served one year as president of the 17 Kankakee County Heart Association, was a member of the Moose, 18 and was active in the Lions Club for over 30 years; in 19 addition, he served the Lions organization both in Grant Park 20 and at the district level, where he earned a lifetime 21 membership and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship in 22 1995 by the International Lions Foundation; and 23 WHEREAS, Mr. Hilgert was also a member of Our Savior 24 Lutheran Church in Momence and served the church as Board 25 President and Treasurer; as a child, Mr. Hilgert helped build 26 the present Our Savior Lutheran Church on Pine Street in 27 Momence; and 28 WHEREAS, Mr. Hilgert enjoyed outside work, always tending 29 a large garden and caring for his lawn, and enjoyed all 30 sports; in addition, he was a member of two golf leagues, one 31 in Grant Park, and the other in Beecher; and -2- LRB9211142RHrh 1 WHEREAS, The passing of Harold Russell Hilgert will be 2 deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his 3 wife, Bennie Hilgert; his son, Mark R. (Debra) Hilgert; his 4 daughters, Beverly (Dan) Compton and Pam Hilgert; his 5 sisters-in-law, Viola Hilgert and Viola Behrends; his 6 grandchildren, Jeff Compton, Sheila Shelley, Brittany 7 Hilgert, and Tyler R. Hilgert; and his great-grandchild, 8 Grant Shelley; therefore, be it 9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 10 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 11 we mourn, along with all who knew him, the death of Harold 12 Russell Hilgert of Grant Park, Illinois; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 14 presented to the family of Harold Russell Hilgert with our 15 sincere condolences.
