1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The entire nation, including Illinois, is
3 experiencing a severe economic downturn; and
4 WHEREAS, As a result, fiscal stimulus is necessary to
5 recover from this downturn; and
6 WHEREAS, The United States Congress is actively
7 considering a fiscal stimulus package that would apply to
8 consumer purchases of goods and services during the year 2001
9 Christmas shopping season; therefore be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12 we urge the Congress of the United States of America to pass
13 and the President of the United States of America to sign
14 needed fiscal stimulus legislation that will grant relief to
15 all of the states and to local governments for the granting
16 of a sales tax holiday on all clothing and durable goods
17 purchased during the first week of the Christmas shopping
18 season, from November 23, 2001 to December 2, 2001; and be it
19 further
20 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
21 delivered to the President of the United States of America
22 and to each member of the Illinois congressional delegation.
