92_HR0471 LRB9210076RHrhA 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, In the light of the events on September 11, 2001 3 the price of gasoline at some locations has risen 4 dramatically within hours of this national tragedy; and 5 WHEREAS, There has been reports of gas prices operating 6 at four and five dollars a gallon; and 7 WHEREAS, It is questionable that this national tragedy 8 has any immediate threat to the national oil supply; and 9 WHEREAS, A few Illinois petroleum retailers have created 10 an artificial gas crisis due to this national tragedy; and 11 WHEREAS, Some gas retailers have exploited this national 12 tragedy to take advantage of Illinois consumers; and 13 WHEREAS, The General Assembly understands that many 14 petroleum retailers did not engage in this price gouging and 15 that the actions of those who did is unconscionable; and 16 WHEREAS, While the nation and Illinois citizens mourned, 17 certain petroleum retailers took advantage of the crisis by 18 gouging consumers; and 19 WHEREAS, The cost of gasoline has widespread 20 ramifications upon the economic performance of the State of 21 Illinois and this nation; and 22 WHEREAS, The cost of gasoline affects numerous citizens 23 throughout Illinois; therefore, be it 24 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 25 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 26 we urge the Attorney General to conduct an immediate 27 investigation of petroleum retailers to determine if any 28 Illinois laws were violated by price gouging or collusion in 29 the State of Illinois; and be it further -2- LRB9210076RHrhA 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to the Illinois Attorney General.
