92_HR0468 LRB9209920RHrhA 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to honor milestone events in the 4 lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Jean Di Monte 6 was named Riverside's Woman of the Year 2001, sponsored by 7 the Riverside Township Chamber of Commerce and the Riverside 8 Township Lions Club; and 9 WHEREAS, Jean Mary Moran was born and raised in Ireland 10 and came to live in Chicago in August, 1958; she worked for 11 the Northern Trust Company and enrolled at DePaul University, 12 where she took classes in elementary education and later, 13 accounting; and 14 WHEREAS, Mrs. Di Monte changed jobs and started working 15 for United Airlines in the accounting department; and 16 WHEREAS, Jean Mary Moran married Ernie Di Monte in 17 October, 1962; they are the proud parents of Cara, Ernie, 18 Camille, and Tom; and 19 WHEREAS, The Di Monte family joined Mater Christi parish 20 and sent their children to Komarek School in North Riverside, 21 where Jean became active in the Tabernacle Guild and the 22 Komarek PTA; and 23 WHEREAS, Ernie Di Monte began his own business, Ernest Di 24 Monte & Associates, in 1969 and Jean became involved in the 25 business; she later returned to school to finish her degree; 26 she earned her degree in Business Administration from the 27 University of Illinois at Chicago in 1980; and 28 WHEREAS, In 1980, the VIP Party in North Riverside 29 approached Mrs. Di Monte about running for the office of 30 Village Trustee; she ran in April 1981 and earned a four year -2- LRB9209920RHrhA 1 term as Village Trustee; during her tenure she helped make 2 crucial decisions regarding the North Riverside Mall, the new 3 recreation center and Village Hall, the destruction of the 4 Melody Mill Ballroom, North Riverside park, and the Public 5 Works facility; she spent countless hours working on the 6 Personnel Policy and Procedure Manual, as well as bringing 7 the code and ordinances book up to date; and 8 WHEREAS, The Di Montes moved their business to Riverside, 9 Illinois in 1982 and quickly became involved in the business 10 community; and 11 WHEREAS, Mrs. Di Monte was encouraged to become the 12 Treasurer of the Riverside Chamber of Commerce and serve on 13 the Board of Directors; and 14 WHEREAS, The Caucus committee approached Mrs. Di Monte to 15 run for Village Trustee in 1993 and she ran for office in 16 April of that year and gained another 4-year term; during 17 this term, she was appointed to the Roads Committee where she 18 worked on a variety of new street projects, including 19 Barrypoint Road, Riverside Road, Longcommon Road, and 20 Delaplaine Road, and the location of the new water tower; and 21 WHEREAS, In 1997, Mrs. Di Monte won a second term as 22 Village Trustee; this term was full of many controversial 23 decisions regarding the Public Works facility, plantings, the 24 new water tower, the remodeling of the Police facility, 25 reclaiming back railroad property and personnel replacement; 26 and 27 WHEREAS, After 8 years on the Village Board, Jean Di 28 Monte retired from local politics in 2001; she plans to spend 29 more time with her children and 10 grandchildren; in addition 30 she is planning on traveling, practicing her oil painting, 31 and studying foreign languages; and -3- LRB9209920RHrhA 1 WHEREAS, Over the years, Jean Di Monte has been involved 2 in several organizations, including as member of Frederick 3 Law Olmsted Society FLOS, serving on the Executive Board from 4 1986 through 1991, including 4 years as Treasurer; she was a 5 member of the RCC where she encouraged the Post Office to 6 remain in Riverside, in addition she encouraged the business 7 community to support the Riverside Arts Center as it became 8 established and sought recognition in Riverside; she served 9 as a member of the Economic Development Commission and acted 10 as a liaison between the Chamber of Commerce and the Economic 11 Development Commission; and she served as a member of the 12 Riverside Garden Club, where she previously chaired the Plant 13 Sale; and 14 WHEREAS, In March, 2001, Jean Di Monte was the recipient 15 of the Woman of Distinction Award presented by Lieutenant 16 Governor Corrine Wood; therefore, be it 17 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 18 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 19 we congratulate Jean Di Monte on being Riverside's Woman of 20 the Year 2001 for her outstanding accomplishments and 21 contributions to her community; and be it further 22 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 23 presented to Jean Di Monte as an expression of our esteem.
