92_HR0458 LRB9209409RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in 4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Ray Willas 6 retired from his duties as mayor of Harwood Heights this 7 year; and 8 WHEREAS, Ray Willas was born on March 17, 1932 to John 9 and Agnes Willas; and 10 WHEREAS, Mayor Willas attended St. Fidelis Elementary 11 School and graduated from Tuley High School and Wright Junior 12 College; and 13 WHEREAS, Mayor Willas served in the Korean War from 1952 14 through 1954 as an engineer in the Corps of Engineers; and 15 WHEREAS, Mayor Willas previously worked as the Finance 16 Director of C.F.S. Continental Coffee and L. Karp & Sons; and 17 WHEREAS, Mayor Willas has been a resident of Harwood 18 Heights since 1964; during this time he has served in many 19 civic positions including, as a member of the Harwood Heights 20 Zoning Board of Appeals by appointment of Mayor Patrick Arbor 21 in 1966, as a member of the Fire Commission for the Norwood 22 Park Fire Protection District, as a Village Trustee in 23 1968-1969 and 1971-1973, and as Mayor since 1973; and 24 WHEREAS, In addition, Mayor Willas served as President of 25 the Leyden-Norwood Park Municipal League from 1975 through 26 1977, as President of the West Central Municipal League from 27 1988 through 1989, and as a 12-year member of the Illinois 28 Municipal League Board; and 29 WHEREAS, Mayor Willas plans to spend his retirement with 30 his loving and very proud family who include his wife -2- LRB9209409RHrh 1 Barbara, his daughter, Mary Kay (husband, Gary) Pawlak, and 2 his grandchildren, Andrew, Brian, and Kaitlin; in addition he 3 will partake in his favorite hobbies which include restoring 4 Corvettes, gun collecting, inventing gadgets, flying, and 5 restoring model trains for his grandchildren; therefore, be 6 it 7 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 8 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 9 we congratulate Ray Willas on his retirement from his duties 10 as Mayor of Harwood Heights and we wish him well in all of 11 his future endeavors; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 13 presented to Mayor Ray Willas as an expression of our esteem.
