1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that the Reverend
6 David E. Olson is being honored on August 5, 2001 on the
7 occasion of the 30th anniversary of his ordination and his
8 5th anniversary as Pastor at Berwyn United Lutheran Church;
9 and
10 WHEREAS, Pastor Olson was born and raised on a
11 tobacco/dairy farm in Wisconsin; he earned his Bachelor of
12 Arts degree in English and Religion from Luther College in
13 1967, and his Master of Divinity from Wartburg College in
14 1971; in addition, he completed a variety of courses at the
15 University of Minnesota; and
16 WHEREAS, After college Pastor Olson served as an intern
17 at Faith Lutheran Church in Reno, Nevada from 1969 through
18 1970, as assistant pastor at Our Savior's Church in Valley
19 City, North Dakota from 1971 through 1977, as pastor of St.
20 Michael's Church in Waltham, Minnesota from 1978 through
21 1987, as associate pastor at Grace Church in Libertyville,
22 Illinois from 1987 through 1996, and as pastor of Berwyn
23 United Lutheran Church in Berwyn, Illinois since 1996; and
24 WHEREAS, In addition to his pastoral duties, Pastor Olson
25 contributes his services to many civic organizations
26 including, nursing home services, synod committees, and
27 clergy associations; in addition he is a member of PADS for
28 the Homeless, the Lutheran Family Mission Board, and Habitat
29 for Humanity; and
30 WHEREAS, Pastor Olson serves as Dean of the Near West
31 Conference of Churches in the Metropolitan Chicago Synod of

1 the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; he is also the
2 President of the Berwyn Historical Society, a volunteer guide
3 at the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio in Oak Park,
4 Illinois, and a member of the Interfaith Leadership Project;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, For the past 30 years, Pastor Olson has served
7 as an advisor and friend to thousands of parishioners in
8 Nevada, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Illinois, who looked to
9 him for guidance and support in their lives; therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12 we congratulate the Reverend David E. Olson on the 30th
13 anniversary of his ordination and his 5th anniversary as
14 Pastor at Berwyn United Lutheran Church; and be it further
15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the Reverend David E. Olson as an expression of
17 our esteem.
