92_HR0424 LRB9209106RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body are honored to 3 recognize significant milestones in the lives of the people 4 of this State; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that George Joseph 6 Friedman of Chicago is celebrating the 100th anniversary of 7 his birth; and 8 WHEREAS, George Joseph Friedman was born on the Jewish 9 holiday of Sh'mini Atzeret, on October 5, 1901, in Chicago; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, Mr. Friedman attended the Smith School, McLaren 12 School, Marshall High School, Crane High School and graduated 13 from Joseph Medill High School, where he played on the 14 basketball team; he was also an excellent handball player and 15 won the handball championship at the Sears YMCA in 1925; and 16 WHEREAS, In 1923, after working several jobs, Mr. 17 Friedman took the position of general manager of Berry and 18 Benson, a wholesale business for retail stores; in 1941 he 19 started his own retail store, Friedman's Jack Robbins 20 Clothing Company, as a side business, and to this day he 21 still operates the Elmwood Park store; and 22 WHEREAS, Mr. Friedman is admired and respected by all who 23 meet him; he is an active member of the Anshe Sholom B'nai 24 Israel Synagogue in Lakeview and frequently leads morning 25 services; he awes everyone with his incredible wit and sense 26 of humor, his stories, his unmatched vitality and vigor, and 27 his knowledge of fine scotches; and 28 WHEREAS, George Joseph Friedman married the late Edith 29 Schwartz in her home in Chicago, Illinois, on June 13, 1926; 30 and -2- LRB9209106RHrh 1 WHEREAS, George Friedman is the proud father of two 2 children, Edward and Marcy; the grandfather of eight 3 grandchildren; and the great grandfather of 6 great 4 grandchildren; he is also the brother of Donald (Dovid), 5 Harvey (Avraham), and Helen (Rivka); therefore, be it 6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 7 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 8 we congratulate George Joseph Friedman on the occasion of his 9 100th birthday and extend to him our sincere best wishes for 10 the future; and be it further 11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 12 presented to George Joseph Friedman as an expression of our 13 respect and esteem.
