1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives are
3 pleased to recognize the honors and achievements of Illinois
4 citizens; and
5 WHEREAS, Ms. Joan Klein is being named Woman of the Year
6 by the Mount Greenwood Civic Association at the 41st
7 Installation Dinner on June 11, 2001; and
8 WHEREAS, Ms. Klein is a Registered Nurse and graduated
9 from the Little Company of Mary Hospital School of Nursing in
10 1959; she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1970 and a
11 Master of Science degree in 1979 from De Paul University; in
12 1987, she earned a Master of Science degree from St. Xavier
13 University; and
14 WHEREAS, Ms. Klein has had a long and varied career; she
15 has worked for Little Company of Mary Hospital; Drs. Blough
16 and Gallagher; San Diego Claremont Hospital; Little Company
17 of Mary School of Nursing; Moraine Valley Community College,
18 where she taught maternal-child nursing; and St. Xavier
19 University School of Nursing; while at St. Xavier University,
20 Ms. Klein served as the Division Director for Senior Level
21 and the Director of the On-Campus Nursing Center and she
22 served on the Rank and Tenure Committee, the Faculty Senate,
23 and the By-Laws Revision Committee; among her many
24 accomplishments, she offered monthly immunizations in
25 collaboration with the Chicago Department of Health, provided
26 yearly skin cancer screenings, offered flu shots to the
27 community, provided tuberculosis skin testing, offered health
28 promotion classes, and provided free Hepatitis B shots for
29 children at St. Cajetan, Queen of Martyrs, and St. Christina
30 parishes; Ms. Klein retired from St. Xavier University on
31 May 28, 2001; and
32 WHEREAS, Ms. Klein has been honored numerous times in the

1 past; she was honored by the Illinois League of Nursing for
2 "Excellence in Teaching"; in 1977, she was awarded the St.
3 Xavier University Award; Ms. Klein has been included in the
4 "Who's Who Among America's Teachers"; she was awarded a
5 fellowship to the University of Colorado for three summers;
6 she is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor
7 Society of Nursing; Ms. Klein won the Mentoring Award from
8 the Alpha Omicron Chapter; and
9 WHEREAS, Ms. Klein is an active member of St. Christina
10 parish, serving on the school board, as president of the
11 Altar and Rosary Society, and as the part-time parish nurse;
12 she is member of the Respect Life Committee of the Altar and
13 Rosary Society; Ms. Klein is the coordinator of the Parish
14 Nurse Program of Little Company of Mary Hospital and a member
15 of Little Company of Mary Hospital's Committee to Address
16 Domestic Violence; therefore, be it
17 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19 we congratulate Joan Klein on being named Woman of the Year
20 by the Mount Greenwood Civic Association and wish her success
21 in all her future endeavors; and be it further
22 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23 presented to Ms. Joan Klein.
