92_HR0408 LRB9209042RHrhA 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to 4 the family and friends of Sylvia Glagov, who passed away on 5 May 19, 2001; and 6 WHEREAS, Sylvia Glagov earned her undergraduate degree in 7 history from Brooklyn College and a master's degree from 8 Columbia University and worked on her doctorate at the 9 University of Chicago; and 10 WHEREAS, Sylvia Glagov began her career at Roosevelt 11 University and the University of Illinois at Chicago; she 12 then moved to Harold Washington College, formerly called Loop 13 College, where she, during her more than 25 year career, 14 became an award-winning college professor; and 15 WHEREAS, Sylvia Glagov cared greatly for and was a major 16 influence in the lives of her students; known for having 17 difficult classes, she expected a lot from her students, even 18 requiring them to take notes, which she then inspected; and 19 WHEREAS, Sylvia Glagov's main areas of expertise were in 20 Russian history, women's history, and the social sciences; 21 and she was always available to give advice, especially on 22 the importance of good study habits; and 23 WHEREAS, Sylvia Glagov retired in 1992; she devoted 24 herself to her other interests, which included listening to 25 classical music, playing the harp, reading, attending films, 26 and visiting art museums; she volunteered to record books 27 for the Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic; and she traveled 28 around the globe, exploring most of Europe and visiting 29 Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Russia; and 30 WHEREAS, The passing of Sylvia Glagov will be felt by all 31 who knew and loved her, especially her husband of nearly 55 -2- LRB9209042RHrhA 1 years, Dr. Seymour Glagov; her son, Hersh Glagov; and her 2 nieces and nephews; therefore be it 3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 4 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 5 we mourn, along with all who knew and loved her, the death of 6 Sylvia Glagov; and be it further 7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 8 presented to the family of Sylvia Glagov.
