1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize significant
4 milestones in the history of businesses of the State of
5 Illinois; and
6 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that in the month
7 of May, 2001, Cohn & Stern, Inc., located in Hyde Park,
8 celebrated its 50th anniversary of being in business; and
9 WHEREAS, Cohn & Stern, Inc. is well-known for providing
10 fine men's clothing and currently reigns as Hyde Park's
11 oldest retail clothing store; and
12 WHEREAS, In 1951, Herman Cohn, a trained tailor who owned
13 and operated a local dry cleaning business where he also sold
14 suits and ties to order, joined forces with Eric Stern, also
15 a tailor who sold custom suits; Cohn & Stern, Inc. officially
16 opened its doors for business on April 5, 1952; and
17 WHEREAS, During its 50-year history, the extraordinary
18 customer service and quality merchandise provided by Cohn &
19 Stern, Inc. has allowed Cohn & Stern, Inc. to outlast nearly
20 all of Chicago's men's retailers with local origins; and
21 WHEREAS, Howard Cohn, the son of co-founder, Herman Cohn,
22 currently operates the store in the fine tradition that Cohn
23 & Stern, Inc. has exemplified for the last 50 years;
24 therefore, be it
25 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
26 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
27 we congratulate Cohn & Stern, Inc. on its 50th anniversary of
28 being in business; and be it further
29 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to
30 Howard Cohn and Herman Cohn as an expression of our esteem.
