92_HR0376 LRB9209011DHmb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to congratulate the chess teams of 4 Orrington School and Nichols Middle School in Evanston, who 5 won the primary (K-3) and junior high divisions, 6 respectively, at the Illinois Scholastic Chess Championship, 7 held March 10 and 11 in Collinsville; and 8 WHEREAS, The Orrington team, competing against 40 other 9 schools, earned a score of 20.5, based on the cumulative wins 10 of its top four players, who competed in seven games over two 11 days, each win counting as a point and a draw earning a 12 player one-half point; and 13 WHEREAS, Sasha Boutilier scored 5, winning 1st place for 14 kindergarten; first-grader Jack Mallers also scored 5, 15 earning an individual 14th place overall; Madelaine Martin's 16 score of 5 won her an individual 4th place for third grade; 17 and third-grader Ashok Raife won individual 11th place 18 overall with a score of 5.5; and 19 WHEREAS, After seven games, the top four players of the 20 Nichols team earned a score of 20, with each player 21 contributing five points; Elliot Damashek placed 16th 22 overall; Sam Decker placed 1st for seventh grade; Veronica 23 Metz won 1st place for eighth grade; and Zach Yarnoff won 24 13th place overall; and 25 WHEREAS, The other members of the Nichols team include 26 Alex Banzhaf, Justin Sandler, Andrew Day, Rueben Doetsch, 27 David Singham, Todd Summers, and Rigel Valentine; their coach 28 is Shawn Decker and their assistant coach is Bill Banzhaf; 29 and 30 WHEREAS, The following members of the Orrington team also 31 had victories at the SuperNationals II championship in Kansas -2- LRB9209011DHmb 1 City, Mo., April 26-29: Ashok Raife, Colin Martin, Misha 2 Boutilier, Nicholas R. Jones, Sam Miller, Sammi Warner, and 3 Benjamin Law; and 4 WHEREAS, The other members of the Orrington team include: 5 Charlie Fisher, Travis Law, Sean Mallers, Madelaine Martin, 6 Atticus Robinson, Miles Robinson, and Sarah Seguine-Hall; 7 their coach is Linda Mallers, and their tutor is Miguel 8 Santana; therefore be it 9 RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 10 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 11 we congratulate the chess teams of Orrington School and 12 Nichols Middle School on their victories at the Illinois 13 Scholastic Chess Championship; and be it further 14 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 15 presented to Orrington School Chess Coach Linda Mallers and 16 Nichols Middle School Chess Coach Shawn Decker as an 17 expression of our esteem.
