92_HR0367 LRB9208950RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to 4 the family and friends of Pamela J. Cockcroft, who passed 5 away on May 5, 2001; and 6 WHEREAS, Pamela J. Cockcroft was born on September 11, 7 1948 in Terra Haute, Indiana to Norman W. Tuttle and Ina Jane 8 Koutsoumpas; and 9 WHEREAS, Mrs. Cockcroft graduated from the University of 10 Illinois in 1967; she also held bachelor's and graduate 11 degrees from Eastern Illinois University; and 12 WHEREAS, Mrs. Cockcroft began teaching at Paris High 13 School in 1970; she served as class, drama, speech, yearbook, 14 and prom sponsors during her early years; and 15 WHEREAS, Mrs. Cockcroft served as principal of Paris High 16 School for over six years; she had reached the pinnacle of 17 her career after devoting her life to teaching and leading 18 others; and 19 WHEREAS, Mrs. Cockcroft was a trainer for "Write On, 20 Illinois", and taught throughout the State of Illinois; she 21 was instrumental as a grant writer in the district; in 22 addition she was active in the Association of Paris Teachers 23 and helped negotiate the first union contract with the Paris 24 school board; and 25 WHEREAS, During her tenure as a teacher, Mrs. Cockcroft 26 was the recipient of numerous awards including the "Those Who 27 Excel" award in 1987 by the State Board of Education and 28 being honored by the Illinois Education Association with the 29 Teacher Advocacy Award; she was also named a master teacher 30 by the Eastern Illinois University Education Psychology 31 Department; and -2- LRB9208950RHrh 1 WHEREAS, Mrs. Cockcroft was also active in her community; 2 she chaired a number of endeavors including the United Way 3 and the first Relay for Life; and 4 WHEREAS, The passing of Pamela J. Cockcroft will be 5 deeply felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her 6 husband, Jerry; her children, Amy Katherine Blystone, Douglas 7 Wayne Tuttle, and Shelby Elizabeth Cockcroft; her 8 granddaughter, Allison Xanna Blystone; and her many students 9 and colleagues, both past and present, at Paris High School; 10 therefore, be it 11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 12 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 13 we mourn, along with all who knew her, the death of Pamela J. 14 Cockcroft of Paris, Illinois; and be it further 15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 16 presented to the family of Pamela J. Cockcroft with our 17 sincere condolences.
