92_HR0353 LRB9208896RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in 4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Doug Chappell 6 is retiring from his duties as Fire Chief of the Hazel Crest 7 Fire Department on May 18, 2001; and 8 WHEREAS, Doug Chappell has served as a volunteer 9 firefighter since January 1971; he was hired full-time in May 10 1978 and became chief in May 1985; and 11 WHEREAS, During his tenure, Doug Chappell has helped 12 improve Hazel Crest's Fire Department's insurance safety 13 rating from a 6 to a 4, one of the best possible ratings for 14 a community the size of Hazel Crest; he has helped upgrade 15 the size of the department and the quality of vehicles and 16 apparatus; he has also improved the department's safety 17 program, and smoothly consolidated with the building 18 department; and 19 WHEREAS, Doug Chappell has served on the State's 20 firefighters' medal of honor committee and was chairman of a 21 committee that worked to get a firefighters memorial monument 22 built on the grounds of the State Capitol; and 23 WHEREAS, Under Doug Chappell's leadership, the Hazel 24 Crest Fire Department has grown and become a model throughout 25 the area for other similar departments; his presence will be 26 sorely missed by the village of Hazel Crest and the many 27 firefighters who have had the pleasure of working with him; 28 and 29 WHEREAS, Doug Chappell will spend his retirement resting, 30 enjoying his daughter's wedding this summer, and pondering a 31 move to the southwest part of the country with his wife, -2- LRB9208896RHrh 1 Linda; therefore, be it 2 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 3 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 4 we congratulate Doug Chappell on his retirement from his 5 duties as Fire Chief of the Hazel Crest Fire Department; and 6 be it further 7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 8 presented to Doug Chappell as an expression of our esteem.
