92_HR0320 LRB9208911RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in 4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Rabbi Oscar 6 Fasman is the recipient of the Orthodox Union's Lifetime 7 Rabbinic Leadership Award; and 8 WHEREAS, At ninety-three years of age, Rabbi Fasman has 9 recently retired from a lifetime of serving various Jewish 10 communities in the Midwest; he served for ten years in 11 Oklahoma and for sixteen years in Canada; he served as 12 President of the Hebrew Theological College in Chicago for 13 eighteen years; he retired as Rabbi of Congregation Yehuda 14 Moshe in Skokie after thirty-five years of service in that 15 area; and 16 WHEREAS, Rabbi Fasman is the first American-born 17 President of a major Orthodox Rabbinical Seminary in the 18 United States; he is a past President of the Rabbinical 19 Council of America and a past President of Chicago Rabbinical 20 Council, has been awarded a D.D. Honoris Causa of Yeshiva 21 University in 1955, conducted a 1957 retreat of United States 22 Jewish Chaplains in the Far East, holding a twelve day United 23 States Army appointment parallel to the rank of Brigadier 24 General, is a pioneer member of the National Executive Board 25 of religious Zionists of America, served as a Honorary 26 Captain in the Royal Canadian Army, and was Bar Ilan 27 University Chair of Advanced Torah Studies Honor in 1992; and 28 WHEREAS, The Orthodox Union on the West Coast will hold 29 its annual banquet on June 18, 2001, where they will present 30 Rabbi Oscar Fasman with the Orthodox Union Lifetime Rabbinic 31 Leadership Award in honor of his distinguished career in the 32 Rabbinate; therefore, be it -2- LRB9208911RHrh 1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 2 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 3 we congratulate Rabbi Oscar Fasman on being the recipient of 4 the Orthodox Union's Lifetime Rabbinic Leadership Award for 5 his distinguiseh career in the Rabbinate; and be it further 6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 7 presented to Rabbi Oscar Fasman as an expression of our 8 esteem.
