92_HR0287 LRB9208766RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to 4 the family and friends of Emil B. Msall, who passed away on 5 March 25, 2001; and 6 WHEREAS, Emil B. Msall was the son on Slovak immigrants, 7 born in their cold-water flat in the Back of the Yards 8 neighborhood; he was an early graduate of Gage Park High 9 School; and 10 WHEREAS, Mr. Msall was a veteran of the United States 11 Navy; he served as a gunner aboard the U.S.S. Hyde, where he 12 helped support amphibious landings in the Pacific; he was one 13 of the first American servicemen to land at Nagasaki as part 14 of a relief effort; and 15 WHEREAS, After the completion of his service with the 16 United States Navy in 1946, Mr. Msall attended Northern 17 Illinois University and graduated with a degree in physical 18 education; during the early 1950s, he pitched for the Chicago 19 Bobcats, a well known 16-inch softball team; and 20 WHEREAS, Mr. Msall served as a gym teacher briefly in the 21 Catholic school system, as nightime supervisor at the 22 Marquette Park fieldhouse, and at a loading dock to make ends 23 meet while his children were young; at the same time, he 24 started working as an insurance man, at first selling 25 policies door to door; in 1957 he began working with 26 Travelers Insurance, where he handled insurance claims; in 27 1970, he moved to CNA Insurance, and then to Shand Morahan in 28 1975; after his retirement in 1993, he continued to serve as 29 a consultant for various local insurance firms for several 30 years; and 31 WHEREAS, Mr. Msall was a gregarious jokester and -2- LRB9208766RHrh 1 storyteller; he enjoyed the company of his friends and family 2 in his Oak Park home; and 3 WHEREAS, The passing of Emil B. Msall will be deeply felt 4 by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Lucille; 5 his children, Laurence Msall, Michael Msall, Anita Msall, 6 Karin Fischer, Mary Rogers, Camille Msall, Madeleine Msall, 7 Christianne Msall, and Julianne Pegler; his sister, Jean 8 Orlik; and his fourteen grandchildren; therefore, be it 9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 10 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 11 we mourn, along with all who knew him, the death of Emil B. 12 Msall of Oak Park, Illinois; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 14 presented to the family of Emil B. Msall with our sincere 15 condolences.
