1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the history or organizations of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, 100 years ago in Decatur, Illinois, a small
6 group of craftsmen in the carpenter trades were working to
7 establish Local Union No. 742 of the United Brotherhood of
8 Carpenter and Joiners of America; and
9 WHEREAS, Local Union No. 742 then and now represents the
10 hope and aspiration of all its members to maintain quality
11 craftsmanship, regulate safe working conditions, and secure a
12 fair wage for all persons working in the carpenters trades;
13 and
14 WHEREAS, Today this organization has grown to be Local
15 Union No. 742 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and
16 Joiners of America covering Macon County, and portions of
17 Moultrie, Piatt, and Sangamon counties; and
18 WHEREAS, The citizens of Decatur and the surrounding
19 communities have for 100 years greatly benefitted from the
20 efforts of this organization in many facets of their lives;
21 therefore, be it
22 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
23 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
24 we declare March 9, 2001 as a day of appreciation and honor
25 for the offices and members of Carpenters Local Union No. 742
26 both past and present, and that we wish them to accept our
27 utmost appreciation for their excellence in craftsmanship
28 which has enriched the quality of all our lives and to
29 continue to provide for us the shining beacon of hope and
30 trust in a job well done for today and tomorrow; and be it
31 further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the members of Carpenters Local Union No. 742 as
3 an expression of our esteem.
