92_HR0210 LRB9208655RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are honored to recognize milestone 4 achievements of a citizen of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Lance Corporal 6 Daniel M. Scarnavack is being awarded the Navy Achievement 7 Medal on April 8, 2001; and 8 WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Daniel M. Scarnavack was born on 9 March 12, 1969; and 10 WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Daniel M. Scarnavack served in 11 the United States Marine Corps from 1987 through 1991; he 12 proudly represented his country during Operation Desert Storm 13 in 1991; and 14 WHEREAS, On April 1, 1991, while serving as Assaultman, 15 Company C, First Battalion, for the Command Operations 16 Center, Lance Corporal Scarnavack's unit was attacked by 17 Iraqi forces; under his heroic and courageous actions, Lance 18 Corporal Scarnavack directed a counterattack where he was 19 able to place several well aimed shots into a bunker that 20 killed or wounded all of the enemy soldiers; his actions 21 contributed to the repelling of an Iraqi counterattack; and 22 WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Scarnavack was the recipient of 23 several medals for his superior performance during this 24 conflict, and they include the Kuwait Liberation Medal, the 25 Southwest Asia Service Medal, the National Defense Service 26 Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, a Combat Action Ribbon, the 27 Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal; and 28 WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Scarnavack's courageous and 29 heroic performance exhibited true devotion and tradition not 30 only to the United States Marine Corps and the United States 31 Naval Service, but also to the United States of America; -2- LRB9208655RHrh 1 therefore, be it 2 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 3 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 4 we honor Lance Corporal Daniel M. Scarnavack on being the 5 recipient of the Navy Achievement Medal for his courageous 6 performance during Operation Desert Storm; and be it further 7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 8 presented to Lance Corporal Daniel M. Scarnavack as an 9 expression of our esteem.
