1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor Juvenito "Ben" Fajardo,
4 Mayor of the Village of Glendale Heights, Illinois, on his
5 retirement; and
6 WHEREAS, Juvenito Fajardo came to the United States in
7 1973 after martial law was declared in the Philippines in
8 1972; he moved from Chicago to Glendale Heights in 1979; and
9 WHEREAS, Mayor Fajardo was elected a Village Trustee in
10 1989, after receiving the encouragement of the Mayor of
11 Glendale Heights; his objectives as Trustee were to keep the
12 village taxes low, keeping the village finances in check,
13 encouraging businesses to move to Glendale Heights, and
14 addressing relevant issues such as gangs, drugs, and crime;
15 and
16 WHEREAS, In 1990 Juvenito Fajardo was appointed Deputy
17 Mayor; he was re-elected Village Trustee in 1993; he was
18 selected by the Board as Acting Village President in 1994;
19 and he was elected Village President in 1995 to serve the
20 unexpired term; on April 1, 1997 he was re-elected Village
21 President (Mayor), with more than 63% of the vote; and
22 WHEREAS, Mayor Fajardo is the first Asian-American
23 elected mayor of a municipality in DuPage County; and
24 WHEREAS, As Mayor, Juvenito Fajardo has overseen the
25 enclosure of the former Armitage Ditch; made significant
26 improvements to Camera Park, including a bike trail; saw the
27 building of a new Public Services facility, an Aquatics Park
28 and a new gymnasium at the Sports Hub, and a Civic Center;
29 achieved police department renovations and an expansion to
30 the department; North Avenue utility extensions and
31 additional water storage tanks for the village were brought

1 about under his leadership; and Glendale Lakes Golf Club and
2 Fonte Gazebo have come about while Mr. Fajardo has served the
3 village; and
4 WHEREAS, Mayor Fajardo has received many awards,
5 including VFW Man of the Year in 1995, Most Outstanding
6 Filipino in the Midwest Public Service by the Cavite
7 Association, and a Community Service Award from the
8 Asian-American Coalition of Chicago; and
9 WHEREAS, Juvenito Fajardo is married to the former
10 Adeline Acosta; they have four children, B.J., Julie, Tony,
11 and Melissa, and two grandchildren; therefore, be it
12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14 we congratulate Juvenito "Ben" Fajardo on his retirement as
15 Mayor of the Village of Glendale Heights, Illinois; and be it
16 further
17 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to Mayor Juvenito Fajardo, along with our sincere
19 regards.
