1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to acknowledge the hard work and
4 faithful dedication of the Little Sisters of the Poor in
5 Chicago, Illinois; and
6 WHEREAS, For 125 years this group of dedicated women of
7 God have provided assistance and aid to the elderly poor of
8 the City of Chicago; and
9 WHEREAS, Six Little Sisters of the Poor arrived in
10 Chicago in July of 1876; they began a ministry that has had
11 hundreds of women in the order serving the needs of the many
12 with their love and compassion; and
13 WHEREAS, The Little Sisters of the Poor began in small
14 quarters, later moving to Sacred Heart Home, St. Augustine
15 Home, and St. Joseph Home; in the 1960s, residents were moved
16 out of Sacred Heart Home into St. Augustine Home, and St.
17 Joseph Home was closed and the residents moved to a new
18 facility in Palatine; the former Alexian Brothers Hospital on
19 Lakewood Avenue was renovated and renamed St. Mary's in 1980,
20 and the residents of St. Augustine Home were moved to this
21 new location; and
22 WHEREAS, The Little Sisters of the Poor continue to
23 provide for the welfare of others, living the example of
24 Christ; therefore, be it
25 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
26 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
27 we thank the Little Sisters of the Poor for their dedication
28 and care for the elderly poor; and we congratulate them on
29 125 years of ministry to the people of the City of Chicago;
30 and be it further
31 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
