1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are concerned with the tremendous increase in
4 the price of natural gas; and
5 WHEREAS, The increase in natural gas prices is not only a
6 problem in the State of Illinois, but also these United
7 States; and
8 WHEREAS, Consumers have born the brunt of the increases
9 in natural gas prices; and
10 WHEREAS, Due to these price increases many consumers are
11 having difficulty in paying their household bills; and
12 WHEREAS, Local natural gas distribution companies pass on
13 their costs through the Purchased Gas Adjustment Charge and
14 do not profit from high prices; therefore, be it
15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17 we direct the Illinois Commerce Commission to explore ways to
18 allow local natural gas distribution companies to mitigate
19 the price spikes in natural gas through hedging or advance
20 purchasing; and be it further
21 RESOLVED, That the Illinois Commerce Commission report on
22 its findings to the General Assembly by July 1, 2001.
