1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives are
3 honored to recognize heroic acts by four citizens of the
4 State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, David Husted, Bryce Radke, and Lee Habben of
6 Ottawa, Illinois and Steve Kolmin of Glencoe, Illinois braved
7 extremely dangerous conditions during a life-saving lake
8 rescue in Winnetka recently; and
9 WHEREAS, A Wisconsin woman was walking her dog at Elder
10 Lane Park when her dog walked onto a patch of ice and fell
11 into the water; in an attempt to rescue her dog, the woman
12 walked onto the ice and fell through; Ottawa high school
13 students, David Husted, Bryce Radke, and Lee Habben, were on
14 the beach at that moment and pulled the woman from the
15 30-degree water of Lake Michigan before hypothermia set in;
16 and
17 WHEREAS, New Trier High School senior, Steve Kolmin was
18 in the Elder Lane parking lot on his way to track practice
19 when two of the Ottawa students ran up to him for assistance;
20 Steve called 911 on his cellular phone and followed the
21 emergency operator's instructions to stabilize the woman's
22 condition and then safely kept her warm in the car of another
23 motorist until the paramedics arrived; and
24 WHEREAS, These courageous young men risked their own
25 lives for the sake of another life; their actions speak well
26 of themselves, their families, their schools, and their
27 communities; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
30 we honor Dave Husted, Bryce Radke, Lee Habben, and Steve
31 Kolmin for their heroic acts of bravery that saved the life

1 of a Wisconsin woman; and be it further
2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to Dave Husted, Bryce Radke, Lee Habben, and Steve
4 Kolmin as an expression of our esteem.
