92_HR0146 LRB9208503KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, U.S. Route 66 is a road of legends; the highway 3 has inspired song writers and balladeers, it has been the 4 theme of a successful television series, and it aided 5 families in their travels across the United States; and 6 WHEREAS, In 1977, Route 66 started being replaced by 7 interstate highways; in 1985 it no longer officially existed; 8 in Illinois more than 300 miles of original pavement still 9 exists; and 10 WHEREAS, Each year more people begin to admire the beauty 11 of Route 66; they travel the road, starting in Chicago, going 12 past the Route 66 Hall of Fame in McLean, Illinois, stopping 13 to walk across the Chain of Rocks Bridge that crosses the 14 Mississippi River, and then head through Missouri; and 15 WHEREAS, The journey down Route 66 continues through 16 Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and finally 17 ends in Los Angeles, California; along the way people are 18 greeted by familiar sites from the past, friendly voices that 19 will tell stories about the road, and a chance to depart the 20 mundane trip down an interstate highway; and 21 WHEREAS, 2001 will celebrate the seventy-fifth 22 anniversary of Route 66; therefore, be it 23 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 24 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 25 we congratulate the members of the Route 66 Association of 26 Illinois as they celebrate this special anniversary of this 27 famed highway; and be it further 28 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 29 presented to the Route 66 Association of Illinois.
