92_HR0025 LRB9203974RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are honored to recognize milestone events in 4 the history of villages in the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that the Village of 6 Lake Villa will be celebrating its centennial year in 7 February, 2001; and 8 WHEREAS, The Village of Lake Villa was incorporated by 9 the Illinois Secretary of State on February 21, 1901; and 10 WHEREAS, E.J. Lehmann, founder of The Fair Store in 11 Chicago, bought a farm with a hotel in 1883 to make a summer 12 home, he immediately began his transformation of the town; 13 the Lehmann family built eight mansions in the Lake Villa 14 area, the first in 1888, that employed many area residents 15 even through the Depression; the area was first known as 16 Sherwood Corners, then changed to Lake City and finally to 17 Lake Villa; Lake Villa went from Indian territory to 18 incorporation in just 65 years; and 19 WHEREAS, Lake Villa was a major destination resort area 20 for approximately 50 years around the turn of the 20th 21 century; train service was established on July 26, 1886 22 bringing vacationers to the resorts and taking carloads of 23 ice and milk to Chicago; and 24 WHEREAS, The area lakes were a source of ice harvesting 25 by the Knickerbocker Ice Company for use in Chicago before 26 refrigeration, providing winter employment for area farmers; 27 and 28 WHEREAS, The Village of Lake Villa continued its 29 expansion with the establishments of the Volunteer Fire 30 Department in 1933, the District Library in 1952, the Rescue 31 Squad in 1956, and most recently, a business park, Park -2- LRB9203974RHrh 1 Place, in 1994; according to Mayor Frank Loffredo, Lake 2 Villa has an eye for progress and growth while maintaining a 3 reverence for the past; and 4 WHEREAS, The residents of the Village of Lake Villa will 5 commence their centennial festivities on February 3, 2001; 6 therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 8 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 9 we congratulate the Village of Lake Villa on its celebration 10 of its 100 year anniversary; and be it further 11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 12 presented to Mayor Frank Loffredo, mayor of the Village of 13 Lake Villa.
