1 AN ACT in relation to public aid.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Public Aid Code is amended by
5 adding Section 5-23 as follows:
6 (305 ILCS 5/5-23 new)
7 Sec. 5-23. Transplant procedures; non-citizen children;
8 study.
9 (a) The Department of Public Aid shall gather and report
10 the following data:
11 (1) The number of illegal alien children who have
12 had solid or tissue organ transplantation paid for by the
13 Department under this Article since January 1, 1998.
14 (2) The number of children (not cases or medical
15 cards) in this State who are classified as illegal aliens
16 and who have received emergency care or care provided in
17 a life-threatening situation since January 1, 1999 using
18 a monthly medical card issued by the Department.
19 (3) The number of illegal alien children who have
20 sought and been denied organ transplantation (because of
21 their undocumented alien status) since January 1, 1999.
22 (b) The Department shall report the data to the Governor
23 and the General Assembly by January 1, 2003.
24 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
25 becoming law.
