92_HB5778 LRB9215022ACsb 1 AN ACT concerning education. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing 5 Section 24-8 as follows: 6 (105 ILCS 5/24-8) (from Ch. 122, par. 24-8) 7 Sec. 24-8. Minimum salary. In fixing the salaries of 8 teachers, school boards shall pay those who serve on a 9 full-time basis not less than a rate for the school year that 10 is based upon training completed in a recognized institution 11 of higher learning, as follows: for the school year beginning 12 July 1, 1980 and thereafter, less than a bachelor's degree, 13 $18,000$9,000; 120 semester hours or more and a bachelor's 14 degree, $20,000$10,000; 150 semester hours or more and a 15 master's degree, $22,000$11,000. 16 Based upon previous public school experience in this 17 State or any other State, territory, dependency or possession 18 of the United States, or in schools operated by or under the 19 auspices of the United States, teachers who serve on a 20 full-time basis shall have their salaries increased to at 21 least the following amounts above the starting salary for a 22 teacher in such district in the same classification: with 23 less than a bachelor's degree, $750 after 5 years; with 120 24 semester hours or more and a bachelor's degree, $1,000 after 25 5 years and $1,600 after 8 years; with 150 semester hours or 26 more and a master's degree, $1,250 after 5 years, $2,000 27 after 8 years and $2,750 after 13 years. 28 For the purpose of this Section a teacher's salary shall 29 include any amount paid by the school district on behalf of 30 the teacher, as teacher contributions, to the Teachers' 31 Retirement System of the State of Illinois. -2- LRB9215022ACsb 1 If a school board establishes a schedule for teachers' 2 salaries based on education and experience, not inconsistent 3 with this Section, all certificated nurses employed by that 4 board shall be paid in accordance with the provisions of such 5 schedule. 6 For purposes of this Section, a teacher who submits a 7 certificate of completion to the school office prior to the 8 first day of the school term shall be considered to have the 9 degree stated in such certificate. 10 (Source: P.A. 83-913.) 11 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect on 12 July 1, 2002.
