1 AN ACT in relation to vehicles.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
5 adding Section 16-102.1 as follows:
6 (625 ILCS 5/16-102.1 new)
7 Sec. 16-102.1. State Police officer and vehicle
8 stationed at a construction or maintenance zone.
9 (a) As used in this Section, "construction or
10 maintenance zone" means an area in which the Department, Toll
11 Highway Authority, or local agency has determined that the
12 preexisting established speed limit through a highway
13 construction or maintenance project is greater than is
14 reasonable or safe with respect to the conditions expected to
15 exist in the construction or maintenance zone and has posted
16 a lower speed limit with a highway construction or
17 maintenance zone special speed limit sign.
18 (b) At least one State Police officer and vehicle must
19 be stationed at a construction or maintenance zone on a State
20 highway at all times when workers are present. The
21 oscillating, rotating, or flashing lights of the State Police
22 vehicle must be lighted at all times while the vehicle is
23 stationed at the construction or maintenance zone.
