1 AN ACT concerning elections.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding
5 Section 1-10 as follows:
6 (10 ILCS 5/1-10 new)
7 Sec. 1-10. Time off from work to serve as election day
8 volunteer. Any person who volunteers to work on an election
9 day on behalf of a candidate or public question may, after
10 giving his or her employer at least 48 hours' notice, be
11 absent from his or her place of work on election day for the
12 purpose of that volunteer work. An employer may require
13 documentation of the volunteer work. An employer may not
14 penalize an employee for that absence other than a deduction
15 in salary for the time the employee was absent from his or
16 her place of employment.
17 As used in this Section, an election day means the day of
18 the general election, general election primary, consolidated
19 election, or consolidated election primary.
