1 AN ACT concerning elections.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding
5 Section 1-8 as follows:
6 (10 ILCS 5/1-8 new)
7 Sec. 1-8. Precinct Optical Scan Technology voting
8 systems. Notwithstanding any provision of this Code to the
9 contrary, beginning with elections held in 2002 and at all
10 elections thereafter, all election authorities must use
11 Precinct Tabulation Optical Scan Technology voting systems
12 approved for use under Article 24B.
13 Section 90. The State Mandates Act is amended by adding
14 Section 8.25 as follows:
15 (30 ILCS 805/8.25 new)
16 Sec. 8.25. Exempt mandate. Notwithstanding Sections 6
17 and 8 of this Act, no reimbursement by the State is required
18 for the implementation of any mandate created by this
19 amendatory Act of the 92nd General Assembly.
20 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
21 becoming law.
