92_HB1920 LRB9207048NTsb 1 AN ACT regarding education. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section 5 2-3.121a as follows: 6 (105 ILCS 5/2-3.121a new) 7 Sec. 2-3.121a. Digital Classroom Grant Program. The 8 Digital Classroom Grant Program is created as a pilot project 9 to attract high-tech teachers to schools that cannot afford 10 them. The State Board of Education shall implement and 11 administer the Program. For the 2001-2002 through 2004-2005 12 school years, the State Board of Education shall offer 13 matching grants to public and private elementary and 14 secondary schools, based on need, to provide enhanced teacher 15 salaries and benefits to attract and retain instructors in 16 computer programming, computer maintenance, and Internet use 17 and development. A matching grant awarded under the Program 18 shall be in an amount equal to at least 50% but not more than 19 90% of the amount to be matched, based on need, but shall not 20 exceed $10,000 per school year. The costs for the Program 21 shall not exceed $1,000,000 per school year. The State Board 22 of Education shall adopt any rules necessary to carry out its 23 responsibilities under this Section. 24 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect on 25 July 1, 2001.
