1 AN ACT regarding higher education.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Nursing Education Scholarship Law is
5 amended by changing Section 2 as follows:
6 (110 ILCS 975/2) (from Ch. 144, par. 2752)
7 Sec. 2. Legislative finding and declaration of policy.
8 The General Assembly finds and hereby declares that the
9 provision of a higher education leading to an associate
10 degree of nursing, an associate degree of applied sciences in
11 nursing, a hospital based nursing program diploma, completion
12 of a practical nursing education program, and a baccalaureate
13 degree in nursing for persons of this State who desire such
14 an education is important to the health, welfare and security
15 of this State and Nation, and consequently is an important
16 public purpose. Many qualified and potential nurses are
17 deterred by financial considerations from pursuing their
18 nursing education, with consequent irreparable loss to the
19 State and Nation of talents vital to health, welfare and
20 security. A system of scholarships, repayment of which may
21 be excused if the individual practices professional nursing
22 or practical nursing after obtaining an associate degree in
23 nursing, associate degree of applied sciences in nursing or
24 completing a practical nursing education program, hospital
25 based nursing program diploma, or a baccalaureate degree in
26 nursing, will enable these such individuals to attend
27 qualified institutions of their choice in the State, public
28 or private.
