92_HB0854 LRB9207068REks 1 AN ACT concerning veterans homes. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The Department of Veterans Affairs Act is 5 amended by changing Section 2.01 as follows: 6 (20 ILCS 2805/2.01) (from Ch. 126 1/2, par. 67.01) 7 Sec. 2.01. Any honorably discharged veteran is entitled 8 to admission to an Illinois Veterans Home, if the applicant: 9 (a) (1) Has served in the armed forces of the United 10 States at least 1 day in the Spanish American War, World War 11 I, World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Viet Nam Campaign, 12 or the Persian Gulf Conflict between the dates recognized by 13 the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or between any other 14 present or future dates recognized by the U.S. Department of 15 Veterans Affairs as a war period, or has served in a hostile 16 fire environment and has been awarded a campaign medal 17 signifying his or her service, for purposes of eligibility 18 for domiciliary or nursing home care;or19 (1.5) Has served in the National Guard or Reserved 20 Forces of the United States and completed 20 years of 21 satisfactory service, is otherwise eligible to receive 22 reserve or active duty retirement benefits, and has been an 23 Illinois resident for at least one year before applying for 24 admission for purposes of eligibility for domiciliary care 25 only; or 26 (2) Has served on active duty in the armed forces for 27 one year for purposes of eligibility for domiciliary care 28 only; and 29 (b) Has service accredited to the State of Illinois or 30 has been a resident of this State for one year immediately 31 preceding the date of application; and -2- LRB9207068REks 1 (c) For admission to the Illinois Veterans Homes at Anna 2 and Quincy, is disabled by disease, wounds, or otherwise and 3 because of the disability is incapable of earning a living; 4 or 5 (d) For admission to the Illinois Veterans Homes at 6 LaSalle and Manteno and for admission to the John Joseph 7 Kelly Veteran's Home, is disabled by disease, wounds, or 8 otherwise and, for purposes of eligibility for nursing home 9 care, requires nursing care because of the disability. 10 (Source: P.A. 91-634, eff. 8-19-99.) 11 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect on 12 January 1, 2002.
