92_HB0735 LRB9201566NTsb 1 AN ACT with regard to schools. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections 5 10-21.7-5 and 34-84a.2 as follows: 6 (105 ILCS 5/10-21.7-5 new) 7 Sec. 10-21.7-5. Principal to report certain felonies and 8 misdemeanors. The principal shall report the occurrence of a 9 felony or misdemeanor offense occurring on school grounds, in 10 the school, on a school bus, or at an activity supervised by 11 school employees to the local law enforcement agency within 12 24 hours after the principal becomes aware of the occurrence. 13 (105 ILCS 5/34-84a.2 new) 14 Sec. 34-84a.2. Principal to report certain felonies and 15 misdemeanors. The principal of each attendance center shall 16 report the occurrence of a felony or misdemeanor offense 17 occurring on school grounds, in the school, on a school bus, 18 or at an activity supervised by school employees to the local 19 law enforcement agency within 24 hours after the principal 20 becomes aware of the occurrence. 21 Section 10. The Criminal Code of 1961 is amended by 22 adding Section 31-9 as follows: 23 (720 ILCS 5/31-9 new) 24 Sec. 31-9. Certain school officials to report certain 25 felonies and misdemeanors. 26 (a) The principal or other appropriate administrative 27 officer of each attendance center of a public or nonpublic 28 elementary or secondary school shall report the occurrence of -2- LRB9201566NTsb 1 a felony or misdemeanor offense occurring on school grounds, 2 in the school, on a school bus, or at an activity supervised 3 by school employees to the local law enforcement agency 4 within 24 hours after the principal or other appropriate 5 administrative officer becomes aware of the occurrence. 6 (b) Sentence. A person who knowingly violates this 7 Section is guilty of a petty offense for which the court 8 shall impose a fine of $500 for each occurrence in which the 9 principal or other appropriate administrative officer fails 10 to report an offense as required by this Section.
