1 AN ACT to amend the School Code by adding Section 22-27.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
5 22-27 as follows:
6 (105 ILCS 5/22-27 new)
7 Sec. 22-27. World War II veterans; diplomas.
8 (a) Upon the request, the school board of any district
9 that maintains grades 10 through 12 shall award a diploma to
10 any honorably discharged veteran who:
11 (1) served in the armed forces of the United States
12 during World War II;
13 (2) resided within an area currently within the
14 district;
15 (3) left high school before graduating in order to
16 serve in the armed forces of the United States; and
17 (4) has not received a high school diploma.
18 (b) The State Board of Education and the Department of
19 Veterans' Affairs may issue rules consistent with the
20 provisions of this Section that are necessary to implement
21 this Section.
