Senate Sponsors: MITCHELL,N. Short description: DANGER ANIMAL-SEIZE-AGRICULTUR Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Illinois Dangerous Animals Act. Expands the definition of "dangerous animal" to include (i) the offspring of a wolf or coyote and a domesticated dog and (ii) non-human primates; defines "poisonous or life-threatening reptile". Provides that if a dangerous animal is exhibited as authorized under the Act, the owner of the animal (and the exhibitor of the animal, if the exhibitor is a person other than the owner) must take reasonable steps to ensure that there is no contact between the animal and any person other than the owner, the exhibitor, or an employee of the owner or exhibitor. Provides that a person may not keep in his or her home a constricting snake capable of causing injury to an infant or child unless the snake is kept in an escape-proof enclosure. Provides that every dangerous animal is subject to seizure (now, such an animal is subject to seizure if there appears to be imminent danger to the public and the animal is not in compliance with the Act). Restricts the transfer of an ownership interest in a dangerous animal. Provides that the Department of Agriculture shall administer the Act. Effective immediately.
