House Sponsors: GILES Short description: VEH CD-SCHOOL BUS MESSAGES Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code with regard to the color of school buses. Provides that signs bearing public service messages on the side of a school bus may be any color. Effective immediately. SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 2. Deletes everything. Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that local school boards may elect, and any school bus company may agree, to display signs bearing public service messages on their Type I school buses (those with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating more than 10,000 pounds). Provides that the signs may be of any color, may be no larger than 2 feet in height and 6 feet in width, and may be displayed within frames on either side or both sides of any Type I school bus. Provides that local school boards electing to display these signs on their Type I school buses shall adopt rules regarding the content of the signs. Effective immediately. SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 3. Provides that local school boards may elect to display public safety (rather than public service) messages on their Type I school buses.
