House Sponsors: GIGLIO-KOSEL-CROTTY-BOLAND-SILVA Short description: VEH CD-SCHOOL ZONE FINE Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to increase the fine for driving over the speed limit in a school zone from $150 to $200 and provides that $50 total of each fine shall be paid to the school district where the violation occurred for school safety purposes. SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Adds reference to: 625 ILCS 5/2-120 Deletes the title and everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that for exceeding the speed limit in a school zone, the offender shall in addition to the fine for this violation, pay $50 to the unit school district where the violation occurred for school safety purposes. If the violation occurred in a dual school district, $25 shall be paid to the elemen- tary school district for school safety purposes and $25 shall be paid to the high school district for school safety purposes. Provides that "school safety purposes" includes the costs associated with the pur- chase, installation and maintenance of caution lights that are mount- ed on school speed zone signs. Further amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to provide that when a fine for violation of the school zone speed limits is $150 or greater (instead of all fines for violations of school speed zone limits), the person who violated the speed limit shall be charged an additional $50 for school safety purposes. Includes school zone safety education in the definition of "school safety purposes".
