Provides that a parent or guardian of a child under 12 years of age or of a child with a physical or mental handicap or with a behavior problem shall be excused from jury service unless reimbursement for day care and other costs is provided by the county. Provides that a public official or employee who violates these provisions is guilty of a Class 3 felony. Effective July 1, 1999. SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Deletes the substance of the bill. Deletes the criminal penalties for officials who fail to comply with the provisions of the bill. Provides that the hardship may relate to the prospective juror being the caregiver of a person with a mental or physical disability or a medically diagnosed behavior problem.
