House Sponsors: HAMOS Short description: VEH CD-SCH BUS DRIVER-FINGERPR Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to provide that individuals who possess a valid school bus driver permit that has been previously issued by the Regional School Superintendent are subject to fingerprinting requirements (instead of not subjecting individuals who possess a valid school bus driver permit that has been previously issued by the Regional School Superintendent to the fingerprinting requirements as long as the permit remains valid and does not lapse). Effective immediately. SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Changes the date by which the fingerprinting requirements for school bus driver applicants shall be completed from January 1, 2000 to January 1, 2001. SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 2. Deletes everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that current holders of school bus driver per- mits are subject to fingerprinting. Provides that those school bus drivers required to undergo fingerprinting-based criminal background investigations due to this amendatory Act of 1999 shall not be requir- ed to pay the fingerprinting fees. Provides that the State shall reim- burse schools for the cost of the fingerprinting. Permits the elec- tronic transfer to the Department of State Police of fingerprinting cards for school bus driver applicants for processing and storage. Provides for the distribution of fees associated with electronic fingerprinting. Effective immediately. FISCAL NOTE (State Board of Education) Potential cost in FY2000 is $1.3 million; subsequent years, cost would be approximately $260,000 annually.
