Senate Sponsors: LAUZEN Short description: MILITARY FUNERAL HONORS ACT Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Creates the Military Funeral Honors Act. Establishes procedures to provide military funeral honors for veterans of the United States armed forces who reside in the State of Illinois who do not receive these honors from the federal government. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Deletes reference to: New Act Adds reference to: 20 ILCS 1805/Art. IV-A heading new 20 ILCS 1805/28.1 new 20 ILCS 1805/28.2 new 20 ILCS 1805/28.3 new 20 ILCS 1805/28.4 new 20 ILCS 1805/28.5 new 20 ILCS 1805/28.6 new 20 ILCS 1805/28.7 new 20 ILCS 1805/28.8 new 20 ILCS 1805/28.9 new Deletes everything. Amends the Military Code of Illinois by adding a new Article concerning military funeral honors. Provides for military funeral honors only to veterans who are Illinois residents and for former Governors, subject to the appropriation of adequate funds and the absence of federal funeral honors. Provides for waiver of eligibility requirements if in the best interests of the State. Describes minimum levels of honor services and authorizes augmented services when deemed appropriate. Provides that members of the Illinois National Guard may be ordered to funeral honors duty and are entitled to a daily stipend for that service. Provides that voluntary participants are entitled to certain forms of support. Provides that the Adjutant General shall administer the program and authorizes the Adjutant General to establish rules to implement the program. Effective January 1, 2001.
