Senate Sponsors: SIEBEN Short description: SCHOOL CODE-TECHNICAL Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the School Code. Makes a technical change in a Section concerning the scholastic records of transferring students and a technical change in a Section concerning suspension or expulsion of pupils and school searches. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Deletes everything after the enacting clause. Provides that if a student is transferring from a public school from which he or she has been suspended or expelled for any reason, the student shall not be permitted to attend class in the public school into which he or she is transferring until the student has served the entire period of the suspension or expulsion imposed by the school from which the student is transferring (now, the prohibition applies only if the student has been suspended or expelled for specified offenses). Provides that a school district into which a student is transferring shall delay the admittance of the student if he or she is currently serving a suspension or expulsion imposed by another Illinois school district or by an out-of-state public school, a private or parochial school regardless of location, or a school located outside of the United States, provided that the total period of the suspension or expulsion, by combining the amount of time served at the school or school district from which the student is transferring with the amount of time by which the student is delayed admittance to the school district into which he or she is transferring, shall not exceed a specified amount of time.
