Senate Sponsors: FAWELL Short description: LOW INCME UNINSRD HLTH INS ACT Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Creates the Low Income Uninsured Health Coverage Act. Creates a program to provide for grants to at least 5 communities around the State for development of demonstration projects providing access to health care coverage for low income uninsured residents of the State who are not eligible for other types of medical coverage to be administered by the Department of Public Aid. Provides that by the end of the demonstration period, the Governor shall submit to the General Assembly a plan for providing for the health insurance needs of low income, uninsured residents of the State. Sets out who is eligible to participate as a provider in the project and the criteria for selection of providers. Effective immediately. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. In a provision regarding the selection criteria for projects under this Act, provides that the Director of the Department of Public Aid shall ensure, to the extent feasible, that the selected projects meet the listed criteria. Adds as projects meeting the selection criteria those which represent a variety of communities around the State that are broadly representative of the communities in the State, in terms of location, population, size, diversity, and access to health care.
