Short description: 
CRIM CD-DOM BAT-PROTECT-FELONY                                             

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the Criminal Code of 1961.  Provides that a person who  is      
   convicted  of  domestic  battery  and  who  has a prior conviction for      
   aggravated battery committed against a family or household  member  is      
   guilty of a Class 4 felony (now a Class A misdemeanor).                     
        SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                
        Deletes everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Criminal      
   Code of 1961.  Provides that domestic battery or  a  violation  of  an      
   order of protection is a Class 4 felony if the defendant has any prior      
   conviction  for  aggravated  battery,  stalking,  aggravated stalking,      
   unlawful restraint, or aggravated unlawful restraint when any of these      
   offenses have been committed against a  family  or  household  member.      
   Effective October 1, 1999.
