Senate Sponsors: SYVERSON-DILLARD Short description: CD CORR-BATTRY-SPORTS OFFICIAL Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Provides that the commission of a battery on a person known to be a sports official at any level of competition and in which the act causing harm to the sports official occurred within an athletic facility or within the immediate vicinity of the facility at which the sports official was an active participant of the athletic contest is aggravated battery. Provides that the penalty is a Class 4 felony. SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Deletes reference to: 720 ILCS 5/12-4 Adds reference to: 730 ILCS 5/5-5-3 Deletes everything. Amends the Unified Code of Corrections. Pro- vides that the court shall impose a minimum fine of $1,000 for a first offense and $2,000 for a second or subsequent offense upon a person convicted of or placed on supervision for battery when the individual harmed was a sports official at any level of competition and the act causing harm to the sports official occurred within an athletic facil- ity at which the official was an active participant of the athletic contest.
