House Sponsors: FEIGENHOLTZ. Short description: PUB AID-MEDICL NUTRTION THERPY Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Medical Assistance Article of the Illinois Public Aid Code. Provides that medical nutrition therapy services shall be covered under the Department of Public Aid's medical assistance program for persons who are otherwise eligible for assistance under the Code. Provides that "medical nutrition therapy services" means nutritional diagnostic, therapy, and counseling services which are furnished by a licensed dietitian or a licensed nutrition counselor pursuant to a referral by a physician. Effective immediately. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Replaces the amendatory language in the bill with a provision that, notwithstanding any other provision of this Section, nutrition services furnished by a licensed dietitian or a licensed nutrition counselor as authorized by the Dietetic and Nutrition Services Practice Act and pursuant to a referral by a physician shall be covered under the medical assistance program under this Article for persons who are otherwise eligible for assistance under this Article.
