91_SR0479 LRB9115251KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Evelyn Frances Austin, who recently passed away; and 5 WHEREAS, Evelyn Austin was born in Greenville, Kentucky, 6 on August 11, 1918; her parents were Dr. Ulysses S. Porter, 7 M.D., and Mollie Wilson Porter; and 8 WHEREAS, Evelyn Austin received her education in the 9 Glasgow and Russellville, Kentucky public schools; she 10 accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at Hopewell Baptist 11 Church in Glasgow, where she also played the organ; after 12 moving to Chicago she joined Friendship Baptist Church and 13 later attended Wayman A.M.E. Church and Holy Name of Mary 14 Church; in 1940 she married Gilbert Ernest Austin, Jr.; and 15 WHEREAS, Evelyn Austin worked as a clerk for the United 16 States Treasury, Bureau of Public Debt and the Commodities 17 Future Trading Commission for over twenty-five years; after 18 her retirement she worked in the funeral services business 19 with her nephew, Marshall C. Andrews; she also served as a 20 judge of election for many years; and 21 WHEREAS, Evelyn Austin enjoyed jazz, gospel, and country 22 western music; she loved to dance at the Club Delisa and the 23 Tivoli; she and her husband also enjoyed ballroom dancing; 24 she enjoyed attending the yearly Bud Billiken Day Parade; in 25 1965 she was featured in the Chicago Defender newspaper, 26 telling her story about the parade being a family event; and 27 WHEREAS, Evelyn Austin will be remembered by many for her 28 love and wisdom, especially be her daughter, Anita Marie 29 Robinson Herron; her son, Ernest Ulysses (wife, Mary) Austin; 30 her grandchildren, Frederick (wife, Katina), Rodney (wife, 31 Desiree), Gregory David, Valerie, Victoria, Deneen, Michael, -2- LRB9115251KBkb 1 and Ernest, Jr.; her fourteen great-grandchildren; her nieces 2 and nephews; her friend, Florine Herndon; her friend and 3 caregiver, Stella McDavid; and her many friends and 4 acquaintances; therefore, be it 5 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing 7 of Evelyn Austin of Chicago, Illinois, and extend our 8 sympathies to her family and friends; and be it further 9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 10 presented to the family of Evelyn Austin.
