91_SR0418 LRB9115017RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Father Terence Joseph Stanton, O.S.B, who passed away on 5 October 27, 2000; and 6 WHEREAS, Father Terence Joseph Stanton, O.S.B. was born 7 on October 28, 1917 in Aurora, Illinois; and 8 WHEREAS, Father Terence Joseph Stanton, O.S.B. attended 9 Fox Valley Catholic High School and St. Meinrad Minor 10 Seminary in St. Meinrad, Indiana; and 11 WHEREAS, On August 6, 1938 Father Terence professed his 12 vows as a Benedictine monk of St. Meinrad Abbey; he was 13 ordained a priest on June 5, 1943 and he began the following 14 year teaching at St. Meinrad Minor Seminary; and 15 WHEREAS, Father Terence Joseph Stanton, O.S.B. returned 16 to Aurora, Illinois as a founding member of Marmion Abbey; 17 from 1947-1953 he taught history and Latin at Marmion 18 Military Academy; he also acted as a Student Chaplain; and 19 WHEREAS, Father Terence Joseph Stanton O.S.B. traveled 20 the country from 1953-1958 giving spiritual retreats to a 21 variety of groups and ages-clergy, religious, military 22 personnel, and youth; he was particularly sought after as a 23 giver of high school retreats; he returned to Marmion Academy 24 in 1958 as the Student Chaplain and teacher of theology and 25 Latin; and 26 WHEREAS, From 1972 until his retirement in 1991, Father 27 Terence was pastor of parishes in Elkton and Tyndall, South 28 Dakota; in 1991 he returned to Marmion Academy to live the 29 monastic life assuming the position of Director of Oblates 30 and serving parishes in the Fox Valley area; and -2- LRB9115017RHrh 1 WHEREAS, The passing of Father Terence Joseph Stanton, 2 O.S.B. will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, 3 they include his monastic family at Marmion Academy; his 4 cousins; his nephews; his nieces; and the countless number of 5 students whom he has taught over the years; therefore, be it 6 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow 8 and regret the death of Father Terence Joseph Stanton, O.S.B. 9 of Aurora, Illinois, and extend our sincere condolences to 10 his family and friends; and be it 11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 12 presented to the family of Father Terence Joseph Stanton, 13 O.S.B. with our deepest sympathy.
